Vikings vs Eagles: In Week 2 of the 2023 NFL season, Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles (2-0) defeated the Minnesota Vikings (0-2) at Lincoln Financial Field. Running back D’Andre Swift led the Eagles with 175 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Minnesota was looking for its first win after losing to Tampa Bay in its season opener, while Philadelphia was coming off a narrow win over New England in Week 1.

The Eagles were held to a field goal after Hurts tossed a deep ball to wide receiver DeVonta Smith, who leaped over a defender to haul in the 54-yard reception.

The Vikings punted and then forced Philadelphia to go three-and-out. Brandon Powell returned the punt deep into Eagles territory for the Vikings before fumbling. Nicholas Morrow recovered the loose ball at the Eagles’ 27.

Theo Jackson intercepted Hurts after Philadelphia recovered the loose ball in Minnesota territory.

It’s another turnover!

Avonte Maddox knocked running back Alexander Mattison out of his possession on the first play Minnesota ran off the interception, and Justin Evans recovered the ball for Philadelphia. However, the Eagles failed to gain a first down after the turnover, and Jake Elliott failed to make a 55-yard field goal.

Strike by the Vikings

After Cousins hit tight end T.J. Hockenson for a 24-yard completion on third down, the two connected for a 5-yard touchdown, giving the Vikings the lead.

Taking it all the way to the end

During the Eagles’ 16-play touchdown drive, they ran the ball 13 times, including eight times with Swift, before Hurts scored on the goal line.

It’s brutal!

Cousins hit Jefferson with a deep ball near the goal line, but the wideout fumbled the ball over the pylon and out of bounds.

That’s awesome!

After Jefferson’s fumble, Philadelphia moved into Minnesota territory, and Elliott kicked a 61-yard field goal before halftime.

13-7 Eagles at halftime

The Eagles maintained possession of the ball at a roughly 2:1 ratio in the first half and led 13-7. Jefferson reached 5,000 career receiving yards late in the first half, tied with Lance Alworth for the fewest games to reach it (52) despite fumbling going into the end zone.

A play by the Eagles’ defense

Fletcher Cox picked up the loose ball after Josh Sweat stripped Cousins on the Eagles’ second play of the second half. Two plays later, Hurts scored another goal.

The Eagles led 27-7 after forcing a Minnesota three-and-out. Smith gained a step on his defender, and Hurts – who took a shot in the backfield – hit the receiver in stride for a 63-yard touchdown.

It’s back with the Vikings

Cousins threw a deep ball to wide receiver Jordan Addison on the fifth play of the ensuing drive, who spun out of a tackle after catching the pass and ran into the end zone for a 62-yard touchdown.

Taking the Eagles out of field-goal range, the Vikings linebacker sacked Hurts back-to-back.

Having forced Philadelphia to punt, Minnesota cut the lead to one score on its next possession. Jefferson collected three receptions for 59 yards on the drive before Cousins found K.J. Osborn in the back of the end zone for a 10-yard score.

Swift punched in a 2-yard touchdown two plays after gaining 43 yards on the ground for the Eagles’ next drive.

Until the end, Vikings fight

Cousins and company got within one score when the quarterback hit Hockenson for a 5-yard touchdown, but the Vikings lost to the Eagles 34-28.
