Sean McVay says Rams general manager Les Snead has spoken with “a handful of teams” about a trade for running back Cam Akers.
McVay said Akers’ healthy scratch Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers was a “coach’s decision” made in the team’s “best interest.”
He had 22 carries for 29 yards and a touchdown in Los Angeles’ season-opening win as a 2020 second-round pick.
“I’m just as confused as everyone else. I’m blessed though,” Akers wrote on X before Sunday’s game.

Akers’ social media post on Monday surprised McVay.
McVay said he felt very good about the clarity he received on Friday and Saturday, both through his representative as well as [agent] David Mulugheta.

Akers spent nearly a month away from the Rams last season after McVay told reporters they explored the option of finding him a “fresh start with another team.” McVay told reporters earlier last year he wanted Akers to show more urgency. McVay said Sunday this situation with Akers “is different” from what transpired last season.
Williams scored twice against the 49ers, rushing for 52 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries and catching six passes for 48 yards and a touchdown.
