Travis Kelce Suggests NFL is “Overdoing” Taylor Swift Coverage

Singer Taylor Swift and actors Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds cheer prior to the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Oct. 01, 2023 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The NFL, according to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, is “overdoing it a little bit” with the spotlight on Kelce’s connection with Taylor Swift.
Travis Kelce mentioned Swift’s appearance at Sunday night’s Chiefs game versus the Jets on their podcast “New Heights,” which was also attended by Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, and Hugh Jackman.
“They are not there to get thrown on TV,” Travis Kelce stated on Wednesday’s show. “You never know, you might get caught eating a big old cheeseburger and look like an idiot.” Certain things you don’t want to see on TV all the time.”

Swift was also in the Kelce family’s box for the Chiefs’ game against the Chicago Bears on September 24. Her presence at both games increased item sales and viewership. According to a business official, ticket resale marketplace StubHub showed a 175% increase in Chiefs-Jets ticket sales three days following Swift’s performance at the Sept. 24 Chiefs game. Swift’s visit sold over 20% of the tickets for the Oct. 1 game.
“I think a few of them might have been there for Deadpool and Taylor,” Jason Kelce said, referring to Reynolds’ character in the “Deadpool” films.
The Eagles player suggested looking to the NBA for ideas on how to cover superstars during sporting events.

“I just think the NFL isn’t used to celebrities attending games.” Basketball seemed to have it figured out. They’re all sitting courtside, they show them once or twice, and then they go back to the game,” Jason Kelce said. “The NFL is like ‘look at all these A-list celebrities at the game!'”
In addition to presenting Swift at many games, the league actively promoted her presence on social media. The NFL recently altered the header picture on their X account, previously known as Twitter, to photographs of the pop legend, however this has now been changed to a promotion for an upcoming game.
The NFL also shared a video of Swift and Lively conversing during the game on their Instagram account. It was captioned: The @chiefs are 2-0, and @taylorswift is in the stands.
Travis Kelce believes football and Swift fans are now overloaded.
The Chiefs star first spoke out about Swift in late September on an episode of his “New Heights” podcast, as speculation swirled over whether the two were dating. Since Swift’s first appearance at a Chiefs game, he has been on a “rollercoaster of life,” he added. Swift’s attendance at the game, he claimed, was “brave.”
“I just thought it was awesome how everyone in the suite had nothing but great things to say about her,” Travis Kelce said. “You know, family and friends.” She looked stunning, and everyone was speaking highly about her.”
